Testimonials
Gustavo Gonzales, Country Director of FAO
Kawkab joined my UNDP team in Sana’a, Yemen, at a critical juncture of the so called Arab Spring in the country. The team was challenged to support the emerging political transition, including support to the national dialogue, elections and early recovery. As a talented communication expert, Kawkab played a key role in defining our youth advocacy strategy. As a woman leader, she excelled in fostering inclusiveness and opening new grounds for our organization in the field of gender equality. As a person, Kawkab was a remarkable team player, plenty of enthusiasm and commitment. |

It’s been an absolute pleasure working with and getting to know Kawkab. She is unique when it comes to her vision, motivation and work ethic. Kawkab is not only a friend, but also someone of inspiration for me which I expect is the same for many other young women in this sector. She has a unique perspective and warmness which allows people to instantly connect with her thanks to her incredible energy and sincere passion for the region. I look forward to reading and following her work, which Kawkab knows I greatly admire.
Amat Alsalam Alhaj, Director of Abductees’ Mothers Association
We worked together for two years (2020-2021) in many different programs, she amazed us by her accuracy in work, high flexibility in managing and working with partnerships and coalitions, her strong faith in human rights, and high care of women and their different roles during and after the conflict.
While working, al-Thaibani put the Association at the forefront of choices made in training and partnership regarding gender and advocacy campaigns. She participated to make our case present in several meetings related to the Yemeni issue, believing unconditionally in the right of the complete freedom of civilians who are abducted and detained by all warring parties.
Caroline Lensing-Hebben, Senior Advisor, UNHCR
Kawkab is wonderful to work with. She is both a natural leader and a great team builder. But most importantly, she is someone who works with a vision. A vision for women's rights, sustainable development of war-rocked countries, justice for all. She always goes the extra mile to make a difference in people's lives. I have huge admiration for her stamina.
Kristine Beckerle, Cover-Lowenstein Fellow at the Schell Center for International Human Rights
I was recommended to Kawkab by staff at Human Rights Watch, who knew Kawkab's history of activism on a range of rights issues, including her impressive track record working to advance women's rights in Yemen. Kawkab repeatedly offered her expertise, her time, and her advice. Since that time, Kawkab has continued to advocate for women's inclusion in the peace process in Yemen, for accountability for conflict-related violations, and for rights-oriented change in Yemen. She co-founded a network run by Yemeni women and for Yemeni women, has written articles advocating that women be meaningfully included in peace and political processes, and pushed for credible investigations into rights abuses by Yemen's warring parties, including advocating for the renewal of the mandate of the UNGEE. Kawkab is friendly, open, thoughtful, and clearly committed to her work. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

Rarely have I met a trainer and expert on gender issues who can draw upon their life and experiences like Kawkab does. She has a very rich reservoir of knowledge, both theoretically and practically, that she tactfully tailors to suit any group of professionals or trainees she’s working with. In a region plagued with civil strife and turmoil, Kawkab never limits herself to one place. She works with Syrian refugees in camps, relentlessly promotes women rights in the entire MENA region, and writes about gender issues to advocate for a better tomorrow. As a friend and highly skilled expert, Kawkab will always be my go-to person whenever I manage any training or consultation on gender issues and communication challenges. |
